Canopy Growth and HousePlant Terminate Partnership

In #Canada, #Canopy Growth and Seth #Rogan’s cannabis company, #Houseplant, end their partnership, after 3 years of collaboration. The mutual decision was prompted by the progress of Canada’s #marijuana industry, and will allow Houseplant to develop independently while Canopy focuses on its wholly-owned brands in the #domestic market. Since the #businesses started their joint venture in 2018, Houseplant has become one of the top 10 marijuana brands in #Ontario, with their #THC-infused #grapefruit #seltzer becoming the country’s best-selling cannabis #beverage the year it launched. Some of the company’s Canadian products, which also include flower, pre-rolls, and capsules, will continue to be available to retailers through #September. According to Rogen, the move does not represent an exit from the country, but a chance to evolve the brand. Houseplant plans to eventually relaunch in the Canadian market, with products more consistent with their #US offerings, which debuted in #March and currently include several #flower strains available only in California, as well as a nationwide line of complementary homegoods like #vinyl records, ashtrays, and a tabletop lighter. Because the relationship between Houseplant and Canopy did not extend to the U.S., the recent decision will have no impact on that #enterprise.
