Google Bans MMJ Sales Apps, Aurora Partners with UFC, and Charlotte’s Web on TSE

In New York, adult use cannabis advocate Senator Liz Krueger admits that recreational legalization most likely won’t happen this legislative session, after negotiations hit a wall. Controversial issues include the authority of cities to opt out of the program and tax revenue distribution, although Krueger and other lawmakers are optimistic about success in the long-term.

In the sports sector: Canadian cannabis giant Aurora partners with UFC to engage in clinical research on the relationship between hemp-derived CBD products and athlete wellness and recovery. The studies will be conducted at UFC’s performance institute in Las Vegas, with hopes of creating a platform to launch campaigns for education and awareness.

In international finance, Colorado-based CBD manufacturer Charlotte’s Web announces it’s senior listing on the Toronto Stock Exchange, becoming the first U.S. cannabis company to do so after the legalization of hemp through the 2018 Farm Bill. They expect the listing to increase exposure and expand access to international investors and capital.

In Canada, global leader in the hemp foods market, Manitoba Harvest, along with ingredient supplier Hemp Oil Canada, launch a line of Broad Spectrum Hemp extract products, including CBD protein powders, oil drops, sprays, and soft gels. The extract has been through vigorous safety testing and the entire line distinguishes itself by being THC-free.

Canada’s leading province in adult-use cannabis sales, Alberta, announces it will issue permits to a hundred and fifteen new marijuana retailers within the next six months, after halting licensing in November. The move comes after a steady increase in inventory, and with almost five hundred more applicants in the queue, will certainly be welcomed by business owners.

Overseas, out of over a hundred licensed cannabis companies in Colombia, only four have completed the registration required for commercial cultivation, with none of them actually selling or exporting yet. With lengthy and strict approval processes standing in the way, many speculate that the hype over Columbia’s MMJ market may have been premature.
