Spanish Authorities Dismantle Massive Chinese MJ Trafficking Operation

Overseas, #Spanish authorities #confiscate 7.2 #million #dollars worth of #marijuana and arrest more than 65 people in connection to a #Chinese criminal organization with operations throughout #Europe. #Police identified the group as the “Bang of #Fujian”, one of the largest #cannabis-growing cartels in the country with its origins in the #Eastern Chinese province and headquarters in #Barcelona. More than 350 law enforcement agents, with support from Interpol, worked to dismantle the network by raiding 29 warehouses across #Spain, as well as private residences in #Portugal and the #Netherlands. They discovered nearly 40,000 plants dispersed between 13 indoor grow-ops, which were illegally connected to the power grid and stealing enough electricity to supply more than a thousand #homes. The official investigation into the gang began after officials discovered parcels containing packaged marijuana in 2019. The group is suspected of making approximately 700 illicit shipments to at least 6 countries, including the #UK, #Germany, and #France. According to Spanish police, Chinese authorities are assisting in the ongoing investigation by exploring possible human trafficking and #money laundering allegations associated with the well-organized criminal operation.
