Easy Crockpot Cannabutter
For this recipe you will need the following:
- A crockpot
- A quart mason jar that will fit inside of your crockpot
- A pound of butter
- An ounce of cannabis (trim is okay for this)
Coarsely grind your cannabis and place it into the jar. Keep in mind that a coarse grind is preferable because it is easier to strain. Soften the butter and place it into the jar. Place a small amount of water into the jar with the cannabis and butter. This will help to keep the mixture from scorching while it cooks. Cover the mouth of the jar with foil and poke a few holes in the foil to allow the steam to escape.
Once your mixture is ready, place it into the crockpot and fill the crockpot about a third of the way up with water. You don’t want the crockpot to be so full that the jar ends up floating around in the bottom of the crockpot. Cover the crockpot and turn on low. Let the mixture simmer for 3-4 hours.
Now it is time to strain the plant material from the cannabutter. For this step, I use a coffee filter replacement strainer that I found at the Dollar store and put two coffee filters in it. It takes a while to strain this way but seems to get most of the plant material out of the butter. Keep in mind that the finer you grind your herb, the harder it is to strain later.
After the mixture is strained, I put it into a bowl and put it in the fridge long enough for the cannabutter to solidify. You can then remove the butter from any remaining water and place into a clean bowl. Keep in the refrigerator until ready to use. I have had cannabutter stay good for 30 days or so but for long-term storage, you might want to freeze it.
